Moet is a West Highland White Terrier who is 6 years old. She was handed in when she was 6 months old by owners, who said they were emigrating! It was quickly discovered that she had a major problem with her hind legs and could not walk in the normal way at all. She was taken to our vet immediately who referred her to a specialist. He confirmed that, due to inbreeding, the bones in her back legs were malformed and needed surgery, but as the tendons were too short she really needed surgery AND physio together, which was not possible. Had she been brought in when very young he might have been able to operate and the prognosis would have been more positive. Sadly for Moet, the owners had done nothing and left her with us without even telling us of her problem!. Euthanasia was recommended. Naturally, Waggy Tails did not want to choose this route and, as she was not in any pain, her foster parents agreed to care for her until such time as life became painful. That was over 5 years ago! Gradually, week-by-week, with lots of TLC,( and by trying to keep up with her doggie chums), she is stronger and can now walk really well on all four legs. She loves the nearby park and rushes around her home with her family, greeting all visitors with gusto! She is a typical terrier and lives life to the full! It’s hard to believe she is the same dog.
